What is the difference between an RV Park & a Tiny House Community?

I get asked that a lot. But I think it is the wrong question. I feel a better question is “What is the difference between a neighborhood and a community?” Typically, a neighborhood is built to improve the wealth of a developer or landlord. The ultimate goal is profit. On the other end of the spectrum is a people-based model, where the bottom line is maximizing the happiness index & meeting the needs of the residents.

If you have ever perused Pinterest for tiny house inspiration, you have definitely seen the famous Tiny Tack House. Chris and Malissa Tack built it eight years ago, before “tiny house” was a well-known term. Back then, very few DIY resources were available. So Malissa decided to design their house herself. She is a highly skilled 3D artist and always up for a good challenge.

FAQ: Adding A Community

IS YOUR COMMUNITY RIGHT FOR THE CHOOSE TINY DIRECTORY?

Not sure your place qualifies as a Choose Tiny Community? It probably does, but you can check out the guidelines below.

Any property that has or allows at least two houses. And at least one of those houses is a tiny house.

This can be represented in many types of communities, such as:

  • tiny-friendly RV parks, mobile-home parks & campgrounds
  • Places with ONLY tiny hosues
  • Backyard parking
  • Mixed housing
  • Etc

Any house under 400 sq ft, give or take. It can be on wheels or on foundation. It can be a school bus, van, shipping container, a cabin, etc. Even a treehouse!

Absolutely! Small houses, typically ranging from 400-1000 sq ft, are a great fit for people who can’t or don’t want a tiny house.

So, it serves a segment of the population that wants the benefits of living tiny in a way that suits them better.
